“I was in prison and you came to visit me” (Matthew 25:36)

During the 1990s, Russian Christian Radio broadcast radio programs over the state-run radio networks, but that opportunity ended later that decade.  Many people listened to the various programs and RCR received many letters in response, especially from those who live behind bars.  Even though the distribution of radio programs ended over the state network, it has continued in other ways, with a special focus toward providing radio programming to prisons in Russia.  This includes distribution of sermons and other programs in MP3 format, as well as via satellite.

In addition to radio programming distributed to prisons, Russian Christian Radio began a Christian magazine in 1995 that is especially aimed at helping those who are currently serving time in Russian prisons.  Long ago, we realized that we as a mission needed to maintain close contact with those who are behind bars in order to encourage them and build them up in their Christian faith.  Consequently, RCR has been visiting various prisons over the past years to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ in person to those who are incarcerated there, while supporting those who have already made their decision to follow Christ.

Visiting Inmates in Prison

Just by reading the letters sent to us from these prisons, we realize how much these prisoners depend on us and consider us their brothers and sisters.  Among those that are of an Orthodox background, we are Orthodox for them.  For those who are Protestants, we are Protestants.  In reality, this is one of our strengths, in that we do not emphasize one denomination over another, rather, Christ over all!

Music Is A Vital Part of Prison Ministry
Looking at our ministry and realizing that Christ wants to save ALL people, we try to proclaim a clear gospel message which is unfettered by confessional differences.  We preach Christ crucified and risen again, but we avoid denominational differences which divide God’s kingdom rather than building it up.  With this in mind, every member of the RCR team identifies with and is involved in a local church.
